Domino and Notes here to stay!
Lotus Notes is 20 years old this year and growth rate of users has increased year on year for the last 4 years by more than 25% and it keeps getting better.
- Performance has been greatly improved.
- Plans for DAOS expansion, DCT expansion, SPNEGGO and file server based roaming on Mac and Linux Notes standard clients.
- Client integration with Quickr, which can integrate with IBM Content Management and Filenet data stores.
- iNotes web access have been improved and Notes Traveller now provides better email and collaboration for mobile workers.
- Symphony Office Application suite provides tight integration with Notes 8 and above and provides significant cost savings - one of our clients is looking to save £50k per annum.
Once again, IBM Lotus continues to set the pace with what I believe is the best and most current Enterprise Collaboration Software (as does CRN - see awards article).
Understanding the true return on investment of Lotus Notes and Domino, may take a person a few years... or even a decade. This is 95% more than a mail platform. It is an open standard universe of business and collaboration discovery. It can plug into business processes and models, vertically or horizontally challenged, and can be wired into other front or back end solutions that any business requires. It is the cold fusion of the software world, the integration and collaboration platform! It is the play dough, glue, gel, cement that is flexible, adaptable, and extendable and has a place for just about any aspect or solution in any business. The best thing of all is that it's in one product box with a simple licence model that runs on any operating system and will never be a rip out and replace solution! Who can match it?
So, Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5 was released in the first quarter of 2009 and there are some major improvements - IBM need to take a bow! What has actually been achieved in such a short time is remarkable, and this is a product that goes back over two decades, it has been re-complied on a totally new platform - called eclipse.
Yes, 8.5 comes with a lot of new benefits and features and I would like to take this opportunity to present a slightly different approach to the normal review of features and benefits, which you can follow via the links below... Yes, these features will greatly reduce total cost of ownership, and will allow you to continually push the return on investment. I have seen at first hand, that some Lotus users are only getting 8 to 15% return (5% being your mail platform), if you stop and think about what you currently do... imagine how far you can take your businesses, using the full range of Lotus applications!
We would love to come and tell you more about Collaboration with Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5 and a number of other products. Please speak to Shane Cawood to find out more.

IBM collaboration winners
Inform & Entertain
We were delighted to welcome 21 clients and Lotus users to a Lotusphere update at the Ice Bar in London's West End. The mixture of Time Technology and IBM feedback provided a 'really good overview of the Lotus product set and how we could help you utilise some of the new developments'. As well as the business input, some freezing vodka cocktails whilst wearing fluffy cloaks, a delicious meal and a spectacular talk from Jon Bradshaw - recently back from walking to the South Pole (and in one piece) - the day provided the opportunity to network and meet the senior Time Technology Team.
