IBM Lotus Sametime is well known as the industry leading corporate Instant Messaging solution. It has proven itself as a highly secure, resilient and scalable solution. Additionally, in its basic form of Instant Messaging, it is free with the Notes client. This makes an extremely attractive entry point.
However, Time Technology are finding that many organisations are now looking to do so much more with the Sametime solution set.
IBM Lotus Sametime comes in three flavours:
- Entry - Basic Instant Messaging and associated presence awareness i.e. you can see whether someone is on-line, not only in the Sametime 'plug-in' but against e-mails from them as well.
- Standard - Enhanced Instant Messaging i.e. file transfers, the ability to hold on-line meetings and share video. Integration into the IP telephony systems.
- Advanced - The addition of screenshare in Instant Message sessions. Enhanced collaboration features such as polling (previously only available in meetings), broadcast announcements and persistent group chat. Advanced integration into telephony.
The most popular feature that we are seeing customers implement is around the Telephony integration. This allows for some fantastic capabilities for organisations that have a distributed and/or mobile workforce (increasingly the case these days). The kind of features that you can deploy with Sametime Standard are as follows:
- Click to dial
- Click to conference (VOIP or via a bridge)
- Transfer from instant message to voice if required
- Ability to integrate with vendor softphones linked to IP systems
- Drag and drop additional users into conference calls
- Moderator controlled conferences (mute/unmute/remove participents)
- Quick find phone number calling
